Council District 2 has the highest return of ballots in the entire City of Spokane according to the latest data released by Spokane County Elections. 21% of voters from the district have turned them in compared to the 18% in District 3 and the 16% in District 1. However in the situation of District 2 and 3, the primary doesn't matter.

Rare book collector theorizes Butch Cassidy survived the Boliva shootout

Rumors stemming from a 200-page manuscript, say that Butch Cassidy survived the Bolivia train station shootout. In fact, a rare book collector thinks so and he believes that Cassidy survived to old age in Washington State and lived some time in Spokane . The Associate Press reports Cassidy went by another name, William T. Phillips, got married and moved to Spokane in 1911 with his wife.

In 1911, the couple moved to Spokane, where their closest friends said years later that Phillips let them in on a secret: He was the famous outlaw.

Help Fire Victims

Get your car washed and help out families who lost everything in a massive apartment fire earlier this week
 

 The car wash is at Pizza Rita at 5511 N. Wall from 9:30 a.m to 4 p.m Saturday, August 13Th.

All proceeds from the car wash will go toward helping families displaced by the Peter Square Apartment fire.

The fire broke out early Wednesday morning and quickly destroyed nine apartments.

Families who lived in the apartment lost everything they owned and now need all the help they can get to rebuild their lives.

Fire District 9 Station 95 is opening its doors for visitors between 10 am and 3pm.

Kids (and adults) can come see Smokey Bear, fire trucks, MedStar and enjoy hot dogs.

Unity in the Community has been bringing diverse themes and messages to Spokane for nearly 20 years. This year they're defining their event as "Local Action, Global Vision" to represent business, education and cultural communities in the region. The annual event takes place on August 20th in Riverfront Park. As with previous years it features world music, dancers, workshops for kids and adults. This year there will be free school supplies for children and new section just for families called Love. Talk. Play.
