Backyard Treasures

Backyard Treasures

I've got plans to hit up the neighborhood park this weekend and you should too if you live near Pine River Park. If you don't, it's worth checking out anyway.

We discovered the quaint park along the Little Spokane River when we moved North about a year and a half ago. It's perfect for a quick afternoon splash in the water, playing in the sand, and might I add... people watching.

The county park has been there a long time. It's nothing new, but it is something special.

WSU Sugar Research Program Funded

Washington State University researchers have been awarded a $450,000 dollar grant to study how a poor diet might genetically change human heart function and contribute to cardiovascular disease.

WSU researcher Susan Marsh has already discovered in preliminary experiments that a diet high in sugar and saturated fat altered the attachment of sugars to proteins in the muscle cells of the heart.

Marsh is an assistant professor in the Nutrition and Exercise Physiology Program in the College of Pharmacy.
