The City of Spokane is working to help people better understand the new water rate structure.

In years past the people who used more water got a bulk rate and paid less per gallon, that way if you had a large yard you could water with out fear of a huge water bill.

But now the city wants you to think twice before you turn on those sprinklers. The more water you use, the more per gallon you'll pay.

Organization Name Change Sparks Silent Controversy

As of July 1st, the Eastern Washington Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EWCDHH) will be known as the Hearing Loss Center. According to their website, the name change was considered because of the expansion of their mission to people with hearing loss, cochlear implants and adults who deafened later in life. They also hope that the shorter name will be easier to identify and will differentiate the center from other institutions that have "Eastern Washington" in their name as well.

Average U.S. temperature increases by 0.5 degrees F

New normal temperatures are to be released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) tomorrow. Their Climatic Data Center has noted the average U.S. temperature increased by 0.5 degrees F. Some of the biggest changes in average temperatures occurred in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Arizona. They saw highest increase in their minimum (low) temperatures.

New Photo Red Cameras

Three new photo-red cameras will go online Friday morning at some very busy Spokane intersections. The new photo enforcement cameras will be watching for redlight runners in the west bound lane of 2nd Avenue at Walnut street, southbound drivers on Maple at 2nd avenue and southbound drivers on Browne Street and 3rd avenue.

Drivers caught running the red lights at those intersections will recieve a warning in the mail for the next 30 days, after that it will be a $124 fine.

Thrift Store Helps Refugees In Spokane

A little know fact about Spokane: the City is home to thousands of refugees from throughout the World, Burma, Napal, Sudan, Rwanda. And thanks to a non-profit organization called Global Neighborhood, these refugees are getting a leg up in their new home.

It's latest effort: a thrift store, dedicated to helping give these refugees jobs, a chance to make money and a chance to gain valuable work experience.
