kxly4 took home two Emmy statues at the 48th Northwest Regional Emmy Awards Saturday, including the award for Best Evening Newscast. The Emmy for Best Newscast is especially important, as kxly4 HD News @ 6 was nominated against Portland stations to bring home the trophy. Swimming Passes Gone

Swimming Passes Gone

The long summer months really seem to drag on if you can't afford to do anything. That's why the Salvation Army is trying to keep kids busy by providing free swim passes. It gives children a chance to hit up one of Spokane's many public pools all summer long.

But tonight, the Salvation Army has already passed out all 1,000 seasonal passes. Families took advantage of the offer and swiped them up in just a week.

Begin Your Preparations for the 1st Annual Flag Day Parade

Flag Day may be one of the most underrated holidays in American history, but Troop 430 in Spokane are hoping to create more awareness of the day. Adopt A Furry Friend

Adopt A Furry Friend

There's new reason tonight to adopt from SCRAPS Animal Shelter. Not only will a new cat or dog give you the love and companionship of a pet, it's a lot cheaper to bring them home.

SCRAPS is offering $25 off adoption fees every Friday this month. They hope the discount will be enough incentive to get people to adopt a new pet. The shelter is almost at full capacity. They say the only other alternatives are transferring the animals to other shelters or euthanasia.

Adopting a cat will cost you $62.70.

Record Cold Start To Thursday

We've added another weather record to our growing list for 2011.  The morning low at Spokane International Airport  for June 9th was 39 degrees.  The previous record of 40 was set in 1999.  Records have been kept in Spokane since 1881.  Meanwhile, we have yet to hit our first official 80 degree (or higher) day in Spokane.  The record for the latest 80 degree reading is June 13th, and based on the 7-day outlook, that record is also in jeopardy.  Stay tuned....
