The school board for Spokane Public Schools decided Tuesday night not to increase elementary class sizes and to recall a number of teachers who were facing layoffs.

During its work session, the district determined it would keep class sizes at current levels. Earlier, a proposal to increase class sizes met with sharp criticism from parents. The district had been considering increasing class sizes by three students in grades K-12 in a move that could potentially save up to $5 Million.

The district is still discussing increasing class sizes at the middle and high school levels.

The organization is located in the basement of a church but it is stand alone nonprofit and receives its support from many avenues such as private donations, food banks and grants.  Founded in 1988, WCFR is an independent agency located in one of the poorest legislative districts of Washington State.
