Still Spring

Still Spring

A great start with a blustery turn for Tuesday.

Partly cloudy and cooler Wednesday and then a chance of showers and below average temps Thursday and Friday.

The weekend looks good for Father's Day, so make those picnic/golf plans and enjoy.

Police urge awareness while using local trails

Police urge awareness while using local trails

A Coeur d'Alene man is recovering from being knocked unconscious and robbed while walking the Centennial Trail. Kootenai County Sheriff's deputies say the attack happened Friday night around 10:45 near Atlas road.

The man is ok, but the suspect is still on the run.

While these are isolated incidents, police say it's easy to be on the lookout. When you're running or walking, look for places someone could potentially hide, to ensure your safety.

Jennifer Martin walks along the trail everyday at lunch.

"People are generally pretty nice, it's kind of fun to walk by and have people say 'hi' to you," Martin said.

She's usually alone when she walks, so Jennifer keeps her head on a swivel. She turns down her iPod so she can hear her surroundings, and always looks people passing by in the eye.

"They know you know you're looking at them it's a power stance kind of, body language," Martin said.

Spokane Police say you don't need to be paranoid, but aware. If you can, walk with a friend.

"You're also an easy target if you're by yourself. I recommend pairs or more," Lt. Rex Olson said.

Dinosaurs take over downtown Spokane

A spectacular show at the Spokane Convention Center this weekend "Discover the Dinosaurs" returns with more than 60 prehistoric animatronic animals.

The very life like animatronics bring in the long lines.

"Riding on a T-Rex, that's probably one of the only places you can do that is here," show manager Steven Roseholt said.

But the fun starts right when you walk in the door with a scavenger hunt

"We are trying to make it more of an educational type of a show plus incorporating a lot of the fun in with it," Roseholt said.

Some of that fun includes face painting, bounce houses and even gem and fossil mining.

"We're trying to make it a whole family fun event; we will have different animatronics, you can push the buttons to make them move, we have static dinosaurs that you can get on and touch them," Roseholt said.

"Discover the Dinosaurs" runs through Sunday.
