Spokane Arts Commission announces 2014 Chase Gallery season | Arts & Culture
With the fresh new year comes a fresh set of locally produced artwork displayed at the Chase Gallery. The gallery, located in Downtown Spokane, will present four exhibitions in 2014.
The first exhibition, titled “Drawing,” will run from January 8 through March 28. It will include drawings, installations and other gestures. The local artists with works displayed are John DeRoulet (Spokane), Rachel Dolezal (Spokane), Noel Fountain and collaborators (Moscow) and Dennis Smith (Medical Lake). An artist reception will be held on Friday, February 7 from 5 – 9 p.m.
Next, starting April 2 and running through July 3, the Chase Gallery will exhibit a collection dubbed “Very Carefully.” This set will display works including woodcarving, metal assemblage, painting and mosaic. The exhibit will house pieces by Hank Chiapetta (Spokane), Sarah Fagan (Portland), Patricia Franklin (Woodinville) and Rik Nelson (Liberty Lake). An artist reception will be held on Friday, April 4 from 5-8 p.m.
Running from July 9 through September 26 will be "Legacy of Expo 74." This exhibition will include pieces by artists whose work was displayed in Expo 74, as well as historical photos from the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture and Northwest Room and artifacts from the time. A reception for this exhibit will be held on Friday, August 1 from 5-8 p.m.
Finally, from October 1 until December 31 the Chase Gallery will display pieces by Gay Waldman and Ken Yuhasz, two of Spokane's most prominent artists. Waldmen is well-known for her photography, while Yuhasz is renowned for his works of neon sculpture. An artist reception for this exhibit will be held on Friday, October 3 from 5-9 p.m.
