Civic Theatre hires new Artistic Director | Arts & Culture
Seven months after firing the Artistic Director, the Spokane Civic Theatre has filled the position. Keith Dixon will begin transitioning into the role over the next few months and will take over full time in June.
"The Board of Directors is looking forward to Keith's artistic leadership and to his bringing his own southern flavor to the Spokane Civic Theatre," Larry Wooley, Civic Board President, said in a press release.
Dixon has spent the last 10 seasons as the Managing Artistic Director for the Theatre Baton Rouge where he directed over 35 shows. He has also directed at Columbia University and the American Theatre of Actors in New York. He has a B.A. in Theatre from Middle Tennessee State University and is an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
The Civic Board fired former Artistic Director Yvonne Johnson in July 2013. She later filed a $2 million lawsuit against the the theatre citing breach of contract.
