Exclusive: Matthew Modine explains recent underwear moment | Arts & Culture

When we heard that Matthew Modine was coming to town, there was the instant clickity-clatter of googling. While we were at it, why not check out the image search? We found some conservative head shots and then this: Modine holding pink undergarments on the set of his upcoming movie Batman: The Dark Knight Rises with no real explanation.

While we were packed like human sardines in Kalae Chock's minivan for Thursday's ride-along, the images of pink unmentionables came up in conversation. That's when we got the Modine exclusive, the back story on the pink undies. And it all ties back to Vision Quest filmed in Spokane.

Modine suspects the ladies who were working with the assistant director for the Batman film. They got a copy of Vision Quest and started watching it during the Batman filming.

Modine describes the Vision Quest scene to us where he gets caught with Carla's panties after bringing them to his face to smell them.

The next day while filming Batman in New York, Modine finds something unexpected on his person.

"I put my hands in my pockets because it was cold. I said, "What's this?" I took it out and it was a pair of pink panties. And there were paparazzi all over the set," Modine said. "There I am getting caught holding pink panties."
