Ownership of KSPS handed over to fundraising group | Business
After owning the license, assets and operations of KSPS-TV for over 40 years, Spokane Public Schools has officially handed over the reigns to the Friends of KSPS.
Spokane Public School has operated KSPS since the late 1960s, and received approval from the Federal Communications Commission to transfer the license and operations of the station to the Friends of KSPS. The transfer was official on September 1st.
The school district sights funding challenges as the reason for the change and wants to focus it's limited resources on educational issues. As part of the agreement, the Friends will continue to lease the studio from SPS, and will continue to produce various district programs for SPS.
