Mustang Raffle Nets $75,000 for Team Gleason | Community Spirit
What started over a year ago as a labor of love by some of Steve Gleason's biggest fans in Spokane, turned into a big payday for Team Gleason in New Orleans Sunday.
Gleason's refurbished 1965 Ford Mustang was raffled off before the Saints' home finale at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Jeffrey Roberts, a Saints fan from Gulf Shores, Alabama, is the lucky winner of the car, which was painted in Saints colors, complete with a fleur-de-lis on the grill.
John Ward, whose son is a childhood friend of Gleason's, along with Steve Maurer and Tim Rattay of Gus Johnson Ford, worked tirelessly on the Mustang for months, after Gleason's father-in-law sent them money to kickstart the project. KXLY4 featured their efforts in this story last year.
The total raised from raffle ticket sales was about $105,000. So after sinking roughly $30,000 into the project, the raffle netted about $75,000 for Team Gleason, as it continues to generate public awareness for ALS, raise funding to empower those with ALS to live a rewarding life and ultimately find a cure.
