Hoopfest Offers More Than Basketball

Hoopfest is known for it's half court take over of Downtown Spokane, but this year the basketball tournament will also play host to two other great sports events. Starting Thursday, the 2013 Slackline World Cup will take over the Red Wagon Meadow and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Ruthie Bolton will be speaking at Nike Center Court.

Ruthie Bolton is considered one of the most accomplished female athletes in the world. Bolton played guard for the Sacramento Monarchs from 1997 to 2004 and was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

The two time Olympic Gold medalist will be speaking about her career and the power of over coming adversity at Nike Center Court on Thursday, June 27th, at 7pm.

Red Wagon Meadow will be the site of the 2013 World Cup Slackline Competition. Slacklining tests agility and balance as competitors cross a nylon webbing suspended between two anchor points. Locally, pine trees make for a solid anchor. Slacklining has become popular due to its versatility and portable nature.

The World Cup will bring some of the most talented slackers in the world and promises to be exciting as they demonstrate their skills in the extreme trickline competition beginning Thursday evening. The tricks continue with two rounds on Friday with the finals taking place Sunday afternoon.
