Downtown bike spectacle promises heart-pounding action | Events
With speeds reaching more than 40 miles per hour and bicycles just inches apart, The 2013 Lilac City Twilight Criterium will excite spectators almost as much as the participants!
The high speed bicycle race is presented by Spokane Rocket Velo and supported by Spokane Sports Commition. It will include a specified number of laps on a closed course over public roads. In its second year, the 2013 Twilight Criterium will be July 6, through the streets of downtown Spokane.
“The Twilight Criterium is fun for spectators. It’s very fast, exhilarating and on the edge of scary,” says Alan Jacob, Race Director.
In the 2012 Criterium, more than 150 cyclists participated in eight categories. This year, more participants are anticipated with a free kids race and a Citizens Ragtag Rally.
“We already have a strong cycling community in Spokane. With events like Spokefest and an active bike-to-work campaign, having a critierium strengthens Spokane’s commitment to cycling,” says Jacob.
The Lilac City Twilight Criterium is another example of the Spokane Sports Commission’s commitment to supporting Spokane’s club sports.
