The stent is a modern miracle and I am now a card carrying member. That's literal! You carry a card with the style, size and location of your stent. If you have a medical emergency, it's imperative that the EMTs, nurses and doctors know about your heart condition and stent. As I travel in my day I get shout outs from people saying "Welcome to the club!" "Got mine years ago!" "Have two!" and on and on. I have been pulled aside in stores, on the street and getting my hair cut to be told of an aunt, uncle, dad or brother who has a stent or open heart surgery. The heart and the amount of emotion connected to it is high. People share tears of happiness or of a loss as they speak to me about their experience.Women have told me of their stents and what symptoms they had. Those symptoms are not the same as men by the way. One woman, in particular, said "I have two stents, am 42 and I love life." Gotcha !! This MI (Myocardial Infarction) or heart attack has made me appreciate things more, but I have found 10 weeks later that appreciation doesn't stick. I have to remind myself that it's a new day and thanks to karma, the heavens, technology, paramedics, Doctors and a string of events that went very smoothly for 38 minutes back in October, I get to wake up and have another day on this earth.
