WIC Participants Urged to Use Checks ASAP

The Washington State Department of Health is urging WIC participants to use any WIC checks they have sooner rather than later. If a budget agreement isn't passed in Olympia, the checks will be unusable as of July 1st.

Retailers who accept WIC checks are reimbursed by the government and if there is a temporary government shut down, the state will not be able to reimburse them. In addition, if a budget agreement is not reached by July 1st, WIC clinics will be closed.

The Department of Health says that any WIC participants who intended to use their checks next week should plan on using them this weekend just to be safe. Clients with any questions can visit www.spokanewic.org for up to date information about the state budgeting process and its potential impact to WIC.
