Spokane named one of the best places to retire | News
When you think of places to retire Florida and Arizona often to come to mind as premier locations. What about Spokane? We may lack the warmth that snow birds seek, but CNN Money recently included Spokane on it’s annual list of the 10 Best Places to Retire.
The list looks at secondary cities that offer retirees the convenience of city life without the congestion and huge populations of larger cities. The common denominator with the cities on the list is that they are in states that don’t tax Social Security benefits and they have a below average cost of living index.
Spokane is specifically cited because of the area’s 76 lakes, five ski resorts, golf courses and wineries. In addition, the growth of urban condos in Downtown Spokane is appealing to retirees that want to trade in their homes for something low maintenance and close to entertainment. Washington’s lack of income tax also makes Spokane an attractive retirement destination.
Other cities on the list include Raleigh, Boise, Fort Lauderdale and Colorado Springs. To view CNN Money’s complete list click HERE.
