Dogs not allowed at major downtown events

Summer is here and that means lots of fun events in Riverfront Park. However, it also means its time to leave your family dog home during major community events held in the park.

The City of Spokane Event Pet Ordinance, SMC 10.03.110, prohibits dogs and other pets at large events in Riverfront Park. This does not apply to service animals. The City wants to remind pet owners that their animals are safer, and likely happier home away from the excessive crowds.

Specifically, pets are not allowed at the following events:

  • Hoopfest
  • Fourth of July Celebration
  • Royal Fireworks Festival
  • Kids’ Day
  • Spokane Falls Northwest Indian Encampment and Pow Wow
  • Pig Out in the Park

The designated area where dogs are not allowed in the central business area during special events is defined as Boone Street (north), Brown Street (east), Second Avenue (south) and Monroe Street (west).

There are some events, such as the PEMCO Outdoor Movies at Riverfront Park, where dogs are allowed.
