City prepares MLK Jr. Way for opening next week | News
Drivers in Spokane will have a new way to access the U-District starting next week.
Martin Luther King Jr. Way will officially open on Thursday, May 31. The city will hold an opening ceremony at 11:00 a.m. and the street will be open to traffic afterward. The project cost $3.77 million and began back in February of 2011.
The new street begins at Riverside and Division. It continues down to North Sherman, which becomes East Spokane Falls Boulevard.
According to the Spokane Engineering Department, this is just Phase I of the corridor. Phase II, planned for next year, will travel along the Spokane River under the Hamilton Street Bridge to Trent Avenue.
