Kindergarten registrations opens March 4 | Schools
Families with students who will be 5 on or before Aug. 31 take note: It’s time to register for kindergarten! Spokane Public Schools is eager to welcome new students to the SPS family. To help kindergarteners get excited about school, SPS provides each with a special, brightly colored tote filled with educational activities that families can work on together.
Kindergarten registration will begin on March 4. Families can register at their neighborhood elementary school between 8:15 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. To provide equity and to reduce long wait lines during kindergarten registration, all elementary schools will be implementing a lottery system to equitably enroll students in kindergarten. The following practice will be used to determine placement of all kindergarten students:
1. Schools will accept all neighborhood kindergarten registrations.
2. By June 1, principals will combine all neighborhood registration forms and randomly select each kindergarten registration using a lottery method.
3. Priority will be given to:
a. Children of full-time certificated and classified school employees.
b. Children with siblings already attending the resident school.
4. If all available seats have been filled, remaining enrollment forms will be dated and time-stamped to be placed as openings occur to create a waiting list. This list will be used to fill slots as they become available.
To find out which school boundary an address falls within, check spokaneschools.org, click on “Parents” and look in the Parent toolbox. Or call 354-5900 and we can help. To register, bring a birth certificate or other verification of age and the student’s immunization records.
New student registration continues during the summer at the Administration building, 200 N. Bernard, weekdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
